Hands up who hates cleaning their makeup brushes/beauty blenders/sponges/whatever else you happen to use to beautify your face? So, everyone then. There’s nothing more disheartening than scrubbing away and just seeing all that product that could have been on your little face just swirl down the drain, never to be seen again. NO MORE!
Now, before I start I don’t profess to be a beauty blogger and never have. I’m one of those people who has no idea how to use a beauty blender or how to hilight and contour, and I basically just shove my makeup on and hope for the best. If you’re looking for makeup tips/advice, you may have got lost, sorry!
However, I was fortunate enough to stumble across Unique Blend on Instagram (make sure you give them a follow @uniqueblenduk – their feed is so aesthetically pleasing!) They are a relatively new company who introduced me to a brand-new makeup applicator called the ‘Siliblender’, and were kind enough to send me one to try, along with a lovely card and note! I’d heard about these silicone makeup blenders before, and was intrigued by its futuristic look and feel. They’re so pretty and squishy!
So what’s so special about it being made of silicone, apart from being fun to squish? You use way less makeup! Because it’s not bristly and doesn’t have holes like a sponge, it doesn’t suck your precious products into its depths within 5 seconds, so you can get the most out of all your makeup. I generally use one pump of my Body Shop foundation, which gives a generous coverage without feeling too much.
Unique Blend advises that you use circular motions to distribute your makeup onto your face, then dab the product to give an airbrushed finish. Once you start using the blender, this definitely comes naturally! Again, I’m not a beauty blogger at all, but a video was the only way to show this technique and what it looks like, so please don’t laugh at my first attempt at a makeup application video!
Where the blender really comes into its own is when you come to blend in concealer – it blends so evenly and, unlike brushes, doesn’t drag the product away from the problem area instead of covering it.
I’m not going to show you the rest of how I apply my makeup, as it’s probably best to leave it to the pros, but hopefully this shows just how well the Siliblender applies products to your face. It’s so easy to use and, if you’re a makeup novice like me, makes your life 100x easier by blending your products easily without having to worry about brush streaks and patchy foundation.
One final thing – look how easy it is to clean! I literally just use soap and rinse it under the tap. 5 seconds and it’s done, no more messing around with baby shampoo or whatever you’re supposed to clean your brushes with! This is also much more hygenic – as it’s so easy to clean, I find I now clean it pretty much every day, rather than waiting weeks (months…) between cleaning my brushes, so have noticed my skin get a lot clearer!
If you’re fed up of washing brushes, wasting makeup and oily skin, then the Siliblender is definitely worth a try! You can buy them for £9.99 here or searching ‘Unique Blend Silicone Makeup Sponge’ on Amazon if you want to try one out, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a go!
