As you probably know if you follow me on Instagram, I like to post a lot of outfit photos. As a general rule, I like to feel as if I look good and I’m dressed appropriately for what I’m doing that day, and unless I’ve got up late or am really shattered, I like to try and plan my outfit the night before.
When I started out blogging, the idea was to use my little space of the internet to write about my outfits, as fashion and clothes was something I was really passionate about. I still am, however I found my posts were getting a bit repetitive and same-y – there’s only several ways you can describe an outfit without rambling on again and again about colour and fit! I can’t stand blog where there are hundreds of photos and a couple of sentences about the outfit – surely the whole point of blogging is to write? To avoid being one of those people, I tend to keep the outfit posts to Instagram where I can just write a short caption, and write about more lengthy topics on here. I link a lot of my outfits over on the ‘Shop My Feed’ page – you can take a look here > SHOP MY FEED.
So, back to the point of this blog before I started rambling on… A question I get asked quite a lot is: “how do you find the inspiration for your outfits?”. The simple answer? PINTEREST.
I’ll explain. I’ve fallen in and out of love with Pinterest several times over the years, but since starting an actual job in the creative industries, I’ve found out just how useful a virtual pinboard can be (especially as someone who’s planning to buy and decorate a flat in the not-too-distant future… more on that as it unfolds!) I have a board for literally everything. Home, office, nails, quotes, fitness – you name it, it’s there.
Shameless plug alert – if you want to see for yourself, you can find me here > BETH CHUDLEY on Pinterest
My most added-to and favourite board to scroll through is my Outfit Inspo one. I basically use this to catalogue any outfits I find which I like – whether this is from Pinterest, Instagram/Stories or just when online shopping. Top tip – the selling shots for clothes are actually really handy if you’re stuck for what to pair an item of clothing with; just find something similar online to whatever you want to wear, and see what they’ve put on the model, simples!
I find it super easy to add to this board now Instagram lets you copy post links, and this is where most of my inspiration stems from. Also, the Pinterest button plugin for your browser is a godsend – you can pin literally any image from any website! I love seeing how all the bloggers I follow are styling the trends, and seeing all the outfits in one place also helps when I’m deciding what key bits to buy for the new season (hello grey checkered blazer, I see u 👀) as they crop up again and again and stand out on the board.
I know this is souunds like a post sponsored by Pinterest, and it’s not (how fab would that be though?? – @ me Pinterest if you’re reading this!) but it honestly saves my butt when I’m planning my outfits. If I’m stuck for ideas, or want to wear a specific piece of clothing in a new way, I just have a quick scroll through and see which outfits I can build which are out of the wash and in my wardrobe.
I’ve linked 5 of my favourite bloggers and Instagrammers and bloggers who I get inspiration from below – make sure you check them out and give them a follow if you like their style!
